In early August Youngchol will join the Korean Army to serve as a medic. So we wanted to have a good time with him at Jeju Island.
Really ten years have passed since we visited Jeju Island.
In June, my wife's friend at Bogwang Phoenix Group arranged two-night accommodation at Phoenix Island, a newly opened family resort at Seopjikoji near the scenic landscape of Sungsan Sunrise Mountain. Also we reserved four seats of Korean Air slated for in the middle of July.
Fortunately it's not the high season, just before the start of summer vacation of schools. There were sufficient rooms for transportation and accommodation.

Upon arrival at the Jeju Airport, we sensed big differences between now and the ten-year-ago past.
For example, the differences include:
- The name of Jeju is officially changed into Jeju Special Autonomous Province;
- UNESCO has designated Sungsan Sunrise Mountain and Manjang Lava Tube as world natural heritage;
- A number of museums and Do-It-Yourself tour sites (eg. mandarine picking, horse riding, ATV driving) are mushrooming;
- Any stranger can drive rent-a-car safely and correctly with the help of GPS-equipped navigator; and
- Tourists are requested to consume as much as they are satisfied under the signboard of "Visit Jeju 2006" slogan, i.e., "We love having you here."

   Dwells in the nature of Jeju Seopjikoji.  

Phoenix Island resort is located at the huge area of Seopjikoji near Sungsan Sunrise Mountain.
Main buildings, which were designed by world famous architects Mario Bota and Ando Tadao, are beautiful in their appearances and become the source of wonderful experiences.

While lying at the bed in the morning, I opened the colorful curtains and looked out through the glass doors into the sea and the sky with sheep-like clouds scattered around.
It was a real rest, which everyone hopes to take for a long time.
Phoenix resort area seems to be cozy and convenient with the scenic surrounding landscape like small volcanic mountains (including Sungsan Sunrise Mountain), meadows, stones and rocks, onshore and offshore.

We felt the ten-year gap of experiences when climbing the Sungsan Sunrise Mountain.
The admission fee was previously free but now is two thousand Won (US$2) per person. The road to the mountain top is constructed with convenient stone steps and rails so that the old may have no difficulty in climbing the mountain.

We heard the Chinese language spoken here and there. In fact, more and more foreign tourists have rushed in Jeju since UNESCO designated Sungsan Sunrise Mountain as one of World Natural Heritages.
Why did I consume considerable money to visit Yosemite and Yellowstone National Park in 2007? Likewise, foreign tourists could enjoy a variety of useful and joyful programs which deserve far more than their efforts and expenses.
